Elopement Shoot

A few months ago, I had the idea to film an elopement shoot. Having never done a styled shoot before, I wasn't sure exactly where to start, so I sent a quick message to Christine Dopp  of Natural Intuition Photography because two years ago Adam and I actually modeled for a styled shoot that she did! So I figured if I was going to get advice, she would be my girl. Not only was she there to answer every single one of my questions, she also hopped on board to collaborate which allowed us to create something even more beautiful! The dress was provided by MinkMaids, so if you are looking for a wedding dress I would highly recommend checking out this bridal boutique! Amanda has an amazing collection of dresses and also makes bespoke gowns + will work with you to create the dress of your dreams. The florals came from Alfa Flower & Wedding Shop out of Wauwatosa. I sent over a few pictures I had saved on my Pinterest board that resembled the kind of flowers I was looking for and the girls at the shop were completely on board! They made us a gorgeous bouquet, a floral crown, and a boutonniere. Danielle Cole from DCo Lovenotes had made us an awesome paper suite to use on a styled table we were going to set up, but unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate with us and we had to forgo the table all together! We so appreciated that she took time to put together paper goods for the shoot even though we didn't get a chance to use them. Our models were Ben + Vanessa Stadler and let me just say, these are my kind of people. The day we filmed it was freezing, windy, and raining + these two didn't complain at all! I was cold and I was bundled up with a hat, scarf, warm jacket, and boots so I can only imagine how much colder Vanessa and Ben felt wearing bridal clothing! They were up for everything we asked them to do and I cannot thank them enough for being so wonderful!

From the very beginning of the planning stages, I knew what songs I wanted to use. I decided early on to make two completely different videos and this decision was largely based on my falling in love with two different songs and a poem. I knew I wanted to use the song Every Moment by Dead Times because it was first and foremost an AWESOME song, and second, was so totally different from any song I had used before. The second song was by Future of Forestry was powerful by itself, but as soon as I layered the song with my favorite poem by e.e. cummings, I had goosebumps. So before we even had the shoot completely planned, I had the music picked out! This is actually the opposite of what my normal workflow looks like. Typically, I will film a couple first, and then choose the music based on the vibe of the day and the personality of the couple. But working backwards this time actually proved to be successful!

Since singing a version of the poem  [i carry your heart with me(i carry it in] by e.e. cummings in choir in high school, it has been one of my favorites. That's why it was a natural choice for me when it came to this video!

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in

my heart)i am never without it(anywhere

i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done

by only me is your doing,my darling)

                                                      i fear

no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want

no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)

and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant

and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows

(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud

and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows

higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)

and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)
